EXHIBITIONS
Regulations stipulating how the Polar Museum will run its exhibition activities are detailed in its objective clause. This states that the collection of material for the museum should concentrate on Norwegian Polar hunting and research history.

HUNTING AND TRAPPING IN THE ARCTIC
WINTER HUNTING IN SVALBARD
This exhibition concerns the hunting of the polar bear and Arctic fox. The exhibition is based around an original trapper’s hut, which was constructed at Krosspynten in Wijdefjorden in 1910.  [ Read more ]
HUNTING AND TRAPPING
The other main category of hunting exhibitions concerns Arctic seal hunting. Given Tromsø’s long tradition with seal hunting, the museum was able to easily source a large amount of suitable exhibition material on this theme.  [ Read more ]
THE EARLIEST HUNTING PERIOD
The museum also presents an exhibition on the earliest hunting period in Svalbard, where Dutchman Willem Barentsz’s famous expedition of 1596 claimed there were plentiful stocks of whale and walrus in the waters around Svalbard.  [ Read more ]

FAMOUS POLAR EXPLORERS
ROALD AMUNDSEN
This exhibition is based on a photo collection covering Roald Amundsen’s life and exploits in the Polar Regions. The exhibition also features a host of historical objects from his various famous expeditions, some of which are Norway’s greatest treasures from this proud part of our history.  [ Read more ]
FRIDTJOF NANSEN – THE FIRST POLAR EXPEDITION
The exhibition on Fridtjof Nansen’s expedition to the North Pole in the polar vessel ”Fram” in 1893 – 1896 is mostly based on a selection of the items available.  [ Read more ]
